The background
One of the studio’s first projects — and still here
IRÉC has worked with Québec Studio for a long time. It was, in fact, one of our first projects, in 2017: the institute’s site, its publications and its admin panel, built on Craft CMS 2.
In 2019, we moved it to Craft 3. Then the years rolled on. To stay current — and with Craft 6 on the horizon — we had to refresh the site’s engine without touching the archive: reports, briefs, position papers, awards, news. Nothing could be lost. Some admin tools were no longer maintained either: they had to be replaced, with the right choices for what comes next.

Nothing gets lost
Publications, authors, awards, theses and dissertations, news: everything the team had entered over the years still had to be there afterward.
Tools to replace
Several admin modules were no longer maintained. We chose current equivalents and made sure the team still recognized its publishing habits.
New text editor
The old editor (Redactor) gave way to CKEditor, the one Craft uses today. Some layouts needed adjusting so already-published articles stayed true to what they were.
Cookie consent
Along the way, the Cookie Consent Kit lands: audience measurement only starts with the visitor’s consent.
Continuity
Same partner, same archive, up-to-date platform: the team publishes as before, on foundations built for the years ahead.

What absolutely had to survive
A research institute lives by its catalogue. The upgrade only made sense if every kind of content kept its place and its listing.

Since 2017, we’ve walked with IRÉC version after version. Craft 5 is the same trust: an up-to-date platform, and every publication exactly where we left it.
